Statement: US-Israel bombing of Iran

Waking up to news of the further destruction of the rules-based international order and the death of innocents is horrific.

I condemn the joint US-Israel attack on Iran today.

This war is not only illegal, but it will also do nothing to bring peace to the region or freedom for Iranians.

My thoughts are with Iranian Canadians and Canadians in the region who fear for their safety and the safety of their families and loved ones.

Prime Minister Mark Carney offering his support to Trump in his actions against Iran is not representative of Canada’s culture of humanitarianism and respect for international law.

Every decision on the international stage Trump has made, from kidnapping the Venezuelan president, to funding the Gaza genocide, to tightening the blockade on Cuba, to threatening to annex Canada, has made the world a more dangerous place.

We need a truly Canadian independent policy approach, we need to take meaningful steps to break significant ties with US foreign policy and set international relations based on respect for international law, human rights, and an anti-genocide agenda.

Again, my thoughts are with Iranian Canadians, Canadians in the region, and everyone feeling the devastating consequences of Trump’s decisions, and our Prime Minister’s choice to condone them.
