Tanille Johnston

BSW, RSW, MSW, she/her

Tanille is making history as the first Indigenous woman to run for NDP leader and the first Indigenous person ever to appear on a federal leadership ballot in Canadian political history.

A social worker, mother, and Campbell River City Councillor, she brings deep community roots and the lived experience of a proud Liǧʷiłdax̌ʷ woman from the We Wai Kai First Nation.

Tanille’s campaign is about building a Canada that works for everyone, especially those most vulnerable. She’s fighting for a Guaranteed Livable Basic Income, a wealth tax, free NDP memberships, and ending the $30B a year in fossil fuel subsidies to big oil.

Her vision centers climate justice, human rights, and Indigenous sovereignty, with a commitment to free post-secondary education and investment in public transit, green housing, and unionized jobs.

Tanille has shattered glass ceilings this leadership race and is putting bold, progressive ideas back at the heart of the NDP.

Let’s Build a better future.
